Water garden calendar
Spring

March
Spring may be blooming above water but below the temperature is still 3 to 4 degrees cooler, so be patient.
This is the time however to press ahead with any new constructions you have in mind.

April
Partially empty the pond (15-20%),top up and introduce the appropriate dose of Bacterstat or Trident Pond Salt. Treat any 'top up' water with Trident Dechlorinator.
If the pond temperature is above 9 degrees Centigrade (fish will not feed below this temperature) give your fish their first feed after the winter. A low protein food is advisable at this time. Divide up overcrowded pond side plants and re-fertilise your baskets.

May
This is the time to begin planting!
Take advice from your local aquatic centre about which plants will provide you with colour all summer long.
Turn on your UV or Combi system after first making sure that you have changed the bulb and cleaned the quartz sleeve.

Summer

June
This is the peak of the pond planting season. Lilies and marginals can be planted right up to September. If the weather is warm you can now add new fish to the pond. Introduce the fish a few at a time so as not to upset the natural balance in your pond. Keep an eye on the pond filter it may need cleaning.

July
This is the month your pond will look its best.
Feed both your fish and plants  at this time. Use a good quality fish food as recommended by your local aquatic centre.

August
Put your feet up, have a cup of tea and enjoy your pond. You have earned a rest.

Autumn

September
As long as your fish come to the surface keep feeding them a wheat germ food to prepare them for the winter rigours ahead.

October/November
Your Trident pond lighting comes into its own as the dark nights descend upon us. Cut back dead and decaying plant life. Clean your UV system and put it away for the winter.
Leave your pump and Bio Filter running to maintain biological activity in the pond and help prevent it freezing.
Install you Trident pool heater to will keep a hole in the ice which will prevent a build up of dangerous gases emanating from rotting vegetation at the bottom of the pond. cover the pond with a Trident Pool Cover Net to keep falling leaves out.

 Winter

There is very little to do during the winter months. The fish will usually go down to the bottom of the pond and require no food during the cold weather.

Curl up by the fire, read your Trident brochure and plan how to make your water garden even more splendid next season!
